BVCA’s Kawika Solidum joins Impetus as deputy communications director
May 24, 2012
Venture philanthropy pioneer Impetus Trust has hired Kawika Solidum as deputy communications director.
Kawika joins from the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association where he was international affairs manager and led the BVCA’s communications and initiatives within emerging markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America as well as forging relationships with similar international industry bodies. He has also worked for community charities in the US and the UK.
In his new role, Kawika’s experience in both the private equity and voluntary sectors will be used to boost Impetus’ capacity to reach and engage new audiences, especially through social media. He reports to director of communications Amy Stillman.
Daniela Barone Soares, chief executive, Impetus Trust said: “In order to create the conditions for systemic social change in the fight against economic disadvantage, we need to engage a greater number of stakeholders who have an interest in breaking the cycle of poverty that affects so many. Kawika will play a valuable role in helping us to achieve this, and we look forward to benefiting from the many skills he will bring to our communications programme.”
Kawika added, “This is an opportunity to blend my experience in both the private equity and voluntary sectors to help further Impetus’s cause as force for good in society. Helping people escape the poverty cycle is vital to rebuilding their individual self esteem and goes hand in hand with the government’s objectives of reducing unemployment and crime. I look forward to harnessing the power of social media to raise awareness of this issue and to bring new supporters into the fold.”
Impetus injects funding, expertise and management support into charities and social enterprises to help them multiply the number of people they are able to help each year.
